Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 13,000 students and 700 employees.
The department of Engineering Science works closely with many industries on multiple co-innovation and co-development projects. Now we want to expand our portfolio in the domain of applied machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Many of our research projects within automation have a substantial number of scopes for the application of AI solutions. We are also starting two new masters’ programs related to ML and AI (one within autonomous vehicles and one within AI and automation). We are looking for an applied AI specialist who can develop both the teaching and research portfolio within the domain.
The position mainly includes research and teaching at all levels within the domain of sensor technology, ML and AI. The role will involve assignments such as research leadership, securing new research projects, running large-scale research projects and supervision of doctoral students and postdoc projects. The new professor is expected to initiate new and on-going projects in the research field of AI and ML with a special focus on sensor-based control within automation. We also expect the new professor to actively interact with industries and other universities to increase the visibility of our work within applied AI. In addition, we expect the new professor to work on new ML and AI technologies to create some unique value proposition from our university. Our department has been growing rapidly and the new professor will have great opportunities to develop a research group in the domain of applied ML and AI.
