Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West is looking for an professor in cyber security!

The department of Engineering Science works closely with many industries on multiple co-innovation and co-development projects. Now we want to expand our portfolio in the domain of computer science - cyber security. We are also starting a new master’s program in fall 2022. We are looking for an applied specialist who can develop both the teaching and research portfolio within the domain.

Role description

The position mainly includes research and teaching at all levels within the domain of cybersecurity and computer science. The role will involve assignments such as research leadership, securing new research projects, running large-scale research projects and supervision of doctoral students and postdoc projects. The new professor is expected to initiate new and on-going projects in the research field of cyber security We also expect the new professor to actively interact with industries and other universities to increase the visibility of our work within computer science. Administrative tasks, linked to the department's development work, can also be included in the employment. Our department has been growing rapidly and the new professor will have great opportunities to develop a research group in the domain of cyber security.

Qualifications for professor:

Extensive experience to conduct independent research that significantly exceed what is required for associate professor according to practice in the field of Cyber security, computer science or similar is required.

Demonstrated pedagogical skills. Applicants who do not have a pedagogical education are expected to undergo such training within two years from the time of employment.

This position also requires:

  • Experience of course development at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate level.
  • Experience of supervising doctoral students.
  • Ability to develop research activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to fully carry out the duties of the appointment in collaboration with the rest of the group.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English is expected.

The following skills will be considered meritorious:

  • Experience of writing international research applications.
  • Industrial experience in the cyber security field and certification
  • Experience in penetration testing, vulnerability research, incident response or governance, risk, and compliance
  • Experience in cloud security, certification for certified ethical hacker (CEH) or other cyber security certifications at a similar level.

Assessment criteria
Special importance will be given to the scientific and pedagogical skills in the subject field, as well as the ability to develop research- and educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community. The subject field and the work tasks will be considered when evaluating the applicant’s skills.

Terms of employment
The employment is a permanent position on full-time basis.
