University West is looking for a research assistant in Powder bed fusion (PBF)
Role description
As a research assistant in Powder bed fusion additive manufacturing, you will assist and support the research group. Your daily work will consist of (but will not be limited to):
- Non-destructive evaluation of samples (X-ray computed tomography)
- Porosity analysis
- Prepare metallography samples
- Design CAD models for 3d printing
- Measure hardness
- Metallurgical characterization with optical microscopy
- Write reports
- Assisting with courses
Qualifications
Mandatory:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at University West in Mechanical, Automotive, or Production Engineering
- Experience in programming with Python
- Completed coursework in CAD
- Completed coursework in Materials Science
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken
Other relevant but not mandatory qualifications:
- Knowledge of Additive manufacturing
- Documented strong collaboration skills
- Knowledge of aerospace alloys (Nickel and Titanium alloys)
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
- Previous practical experience with post-build heat treatments
- Previous knowledge or practical experience of X-ray computed tomography

The employment is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position from 11 June 2026 to 31 August 2026.
