This senior lecturer position is within the Division of Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Engineering Science at University West. This division constitutes an important pillar of University West's complete academic environment in Production Technology. With about 70 researchers, research engineers, and PhD students, it carries out research on welding, metal additive manufacturing (AM), and thermal spray manufacturing processes with the overarching goal of improving quality, efficiency, and reducing our environmental footprint. The Production Technology research facility has state-of-the-art equipment, including laser beam, electron beam, and electric arc AM systems for metal feedstock in the form of wire, blown powder, and powder bed. It also has a very well-equipped material characterisation lab with, among other things, electron microscopy, material testing, and physical simulation machine (Gleeble). Research on AM is conducted mainly experimentally and through modelling and simulation to understand, develop, and improve processes, process monitoring and control, microstructure, and mechanical performance for a variety of metal alloys. This multi-disciplinary and collaborative research is distinguished by close collaboration with industry and is largely externally funded.
The focus of the research is additive manufacturing of metals by powder bed fusion, with an emphasis on advanced materials such as titanium alloys, nickel-based superalloys, steel and aluminium alloys. Your responsibilities will involve leading a research group, participating in research projects, and most significantly, actively securing funding for future projects both for yourself and for others. We therefore expect a blend of creativity, focus, independence, and initiative, combined with skills in teamwork, scientific leadership, and collaborative research with industry. You will engage in project management, and as a member of the teaching faculty, you will be expected to teach at all levels and supervise PhD and graduate thesis projects. The position is a senior lecturer position with an option for promotion to Professor position for outstanding candidates.
- Demonstrated pedagogical skills (Chapter 4, Section 4, HF). Applicants who lack pedagogical qualifications from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's eligibility requirements, although it may have been achieved in a way other than within the academic environment.
- Completed higher education teaching training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education teaching training has not been completed, employment can still take place, provided that the employee completes the training during the first two years of employment. The candidate is expected to be able to teach in Swedish after two years.
- A completed doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on additive manufacturing and/or material science, or equivalent scientific competence or any other professional skill that is of importance with regard to the subject content of the position and the tasks that will be included in the position (Chapter 4, Section 4, HF).
The position is permanent. A six-month probationary period may apply.
The selection process may involve trial lectures, work tests, interviews and reference checks.
