University West is seeking a Research Engineer in Sensor Design and AI Algorithms
The Department of Engineering Science is looking for an engineer with documented experience in sensor design, AI algorithms, and academic publications to work on two ongoing collaborative projects for an 11-month period. The new engineer will collaborate with researchers and industry partners in the projects
DIPyAI and
PODFAM. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the department’s teaching activities.For over 20 years, University West has been a Cisco Academy Support and Training Center, responsible for quality assurance and instructor training at more than 15 Cisco academies, five of which are colleges or universities.At the
Production Technology Centre (PTC), the department conducts leading research in automation, where digitalization will play a central role in the future.
Job Description
The main focus of the position is to work with sensor- and AI-related components in the two projects mentioned above. In addition to technical work, you may also need to interact with industry partners, regularly present your work to them, attend meetings, contribute to new research proposals, and possibly supervise thesis projects at the bachelor’s and master’s levels.Active participation in the department’s and the university’s activities is important. This includes contributing to development work and administrative tasks. Eligibility Requirements for Employment as Research Engineer
- At least a four-year engineering degree. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed, or are close to completing, a doctoral degree.
In addition, the following are required for this position:
- Experience in understanding sensor physics, embedded systems, and PCB design
- Experience in designing AI algorithms and architectures for processing sensor data
- Good command of English, both spoken and written
Merits for the position include:
- Experience in interdisciplinary projects
- Documented ability to collaborate and build good relationships both internally at the university and with external partners
- Experience in academic research with documented publications in highly ranked journals or conferences
- Experience using AI-based coding tools to create more efficient program code
- Experience in preparing research proposals and leading externally funded projects (e.g., EU, Vinnova, or KK Foundation)
- Contributions to the industrial research environment Production Technology West (PTW) at University West
