Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 13,000 students and 700 employees.

University West is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Electronics

The field of electrical engineering is evolving rapidly as a significant portion of industry and the vehicle fleet undergo electrification, creating new demands for expertise and applicability. The research group in electrical engineering at University West is deeply engaged in this transition. As both research and teaching activities are expanding, we are continuously seeking new colleagues. Our research and educational activities are conducted in close collaboration with industry—locally, nationally, and internationally. Our engineering programs span both undergraduate and graduate levels and are complemented by a wide range of standalone courses, offered both as part of our regular curriculum and as commissioned education for professionals.

Electrical engineering is one of the university’s prioritized areas, and we are now looking for a Senior Lecturer in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and research in electrical engineering. Teaching and supervision may occur at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
  • Contributing to the development of the department’s work in electrical engineering, including course development and interdisciplinary perspectives.

University West has a profile in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). In line with this, several programs at the Department of Engineering Sciences include Co-op education, where students alternate theoretical studies with paid work placements in industry. The position may therefore include tasks related to Co-op, such as acting as a liaison between the university and industry, and visiting students during their placements.
Collaboration with society is central to University West. A key responsibility is to establish and maintain a network of contacts within the industry.The position may also include teaching for professionals and applying for external research funding.
Participation in the university’s broader activities, departmental development work, and administrative tasks.

Eligibility Requirements for Appointment as Senior Lecturer:

  • Demonstrated teaching proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance). Applicants lacking formal teaching merits from an academic environment must have equivalent competence, which may have been acquired outside academia.
  • Completion of higher education teaching training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If such training is lacking, employment may still be offered on the condition that the training is completed within the first two years of employment.
  • A doctoral degree or equivalent scholarly competence, or other professional expertise relevant to the subject area and duties of the position (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

Additional Requirements for This Position:

  • A doctoral degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent scholarly competence.
  • Professional experience in electrical engineering.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to teach in English.
  • Ability to collaborate with Swedish industry.

For this position, collaborative proficiency will be prioritized first, followed by scholarly proficiency, and then teaching proficiency.

In the appointment of a Senior Lecturer, teaching proficiency shall be given equal consideration as other eligibility criteria. The assessment of proficiency will consider the subject area, subject description, and duties of the position.

Additional Information:

This is a permanent position. A six-month probationary period may be applied.

The selection process may include trial lectures, work samples, interviews, and reference checks.
