Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. University West is looking for an Assistant senior lecturer in Computer Science specializing in Algorithms

The Department of Engineering is looking for employees in the field of computer science. We are looking for you who, together with a competent team, want to be involved in developing the field of computer engineering.

We have a technician program in network technology and IT security where about a third of the students study a postgraduate year in computer engineering that generates a bachelor's degree. Since autumn 2018, we have a three-year computer engineering program with a focus on programming, network technology, IoT and cyber security. After that, there is the opportunity to study one or two years on the master's program in robotics and automation. We also have distance courses in network, bitcoin and blockchain technology.

For 20 years, University West has been a Cisco Academy Support and Training Center with quality and training responsibility for instructors at over 15 Cisco academies, five of which are colleges/universities.

At the Production Technology Center, the department conducts prominent research in automation and its digitalization will have a central role in the future.

Duties

The main focus of the position is on research and teaching in Computer Science, with a particular emphasis on driving the field forward through innovative studies and initiatives. You will be expected to actively contribute to the development of research initiatives and promote cutting-edge projects in line with the strategic goals of the department, as well as at Production Technology West (PTW). In addition, you will play a central role in the design and enhancement of educational programs and courses to ensure they are of the highest academic and industrial standards.

An active involvement in the life of the department and the institution is essential. This includes contribution to wider development activities and administrative tasks. Opportunities for professional development are offered as part of the position in accordance with current working time agreements.

Eligibility requirements for the position of Assistant senior lecture

A doctoral degree in computer science or equivalent scientific competence. Preference should be given to those who have obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent competence no more than seven years before the deadline for applying for the position of assistant professor. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons, in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 4a of the HF. 4 a § HF.

This position also requires:

  • Perform research in computer science and engineering, with a particular focus on algorithm design for industrial automation

  • Special emphasis will be placed on expertise with a robust network in Swedish industries and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • Algorithm design, process optimization, statistical data analysis, computer science
    • Cybersecurity in industrial environment
    • Design of industrial sensor systems and processing of sensor data

  • Good language and writing skills in English

  • Proven good collaboration skills, as well as the ability to create good relationships 

  • Commitment and responsibility

In the assessment, Teaching proficiency skills and Academic expertise will be weighted equally and given priority. Collaboration skills, administrative skills, management skills and other professional skills will be weighted equally and given second priority.

When appointing a senior lecturer, pedagogical skills shall be given the same consideration as other qualifying factors. When assessing competence, the subject area, subject description and duties of the post are considered.

Conditions

An Assistant professor may be employed until further notice, but for a minimum of four years and a maximum of six years. If there are special reasons, the appointment may be extended (Chapter 4, Section 4a HF).

The purpose of the appointment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop his or her independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the eligibility requirements for employment as a senior lecturer.

An assistant professor employed under Section 2a of HF1 at a higher education institution shall, upon application, be promoted to senior lecturer at that institution if he or she is qualified for employment as a senior lecturer and is deemed suitable for such employment during an assessment, in accordance with the assessment criteria that the higher education institution has decided to apply in a case of promotion to senior lecturer. Such promotion entails a permanent appointment as senior lecturer.
