Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 13,000 students and 700 employees.

University West is seeking a Senior Lecturer in electrical engineering

Job Responsibilities:

The position mainly consists of teaching and research in electrical engineering. Teaching and supervision can take place at both undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels. Another purpose of the position is to assist in the development of the department's work in electrical engineering, which includes developing courses in electrical engineering and contributing with interdisciplinary perspectives. University West's profile is work-integrated learning (AIL) and in line with this, several of the programs at the Department of Engineering Science include co-op, which means that students alternate theoretical studies with paid work periods at companies. The position may therefore include tasks related to co-op, which includes being the link between the university and the business community, and visiting students during their work at the companies. Collaboration with the surrounding community is central to University West and an important task is therefore to create and maintain a network of contacts with the industry. Both teaching for professionals and seeking external funding are also planned to be included in the position. In addition, this includes participation in the university's other activities, the department's development work, and administrative tasks.

Eligibility requirements for employment as a senior lecturer:

  • Demonstrated teaching proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance). Applicants lacking academic teaching credentials must have equivalent competence to meet the university's eligibility requirements, which may have been acquired outside the academic environment.

  • Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If such training is lacking, employment can still occur provided that the employee completes the training within the first two years of employment.

  • A doctoral degree in electrical engineering or another related subject that the employer deems relevant to the employment or equivalent scientific competence, or other professional expertise relevant to the subject matter of the position and the duties included in the employment (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

The employment also requires:

  • Good collaboration skills
  • Ability to teach in English

The following skills will be considered meritorious:

  • Professional experience from working with interdisciplinary perspectives
  • Work in the electric power industry outside of a college/university
  • Good contacts with the Swedish electric power industry
  • Ability to teach in Swedish

For this appointment, all assessment criteria shall be applied in no particular order.

When appointing a senior lecturer, pedagogical skills shall be given equal consideration as other qualifying circumstances. When assessing skills, the subject area, subject description and work tasks of the position are taken into account.

Other Information:

The position is a permanent appointment. A six-month probationary period may be applied.
