Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 13,000 students and 700 employees.

University West seeks students to lead Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction has proven to be a successful pedagogical method used at several educational institutions in Sweden and internationally to improve students’ study outcomes. Supplemental Instruction (SI) means in practice students gathering in small study groups outside regular schedule to work with course content. These SI sessions are voluntary and supplementary to the regular course instruction. The SI sessions are led by a trained SI Leader, a student who has successfully passed the course. SI stands for Supplemental Instruction or collaborative learning and is equivalent to PASS, Peer Assisted Study Sessions and PAL, Peer Assisted Learning.

We are currently seeking 20-25 SI Leaders. Selection of applicants may occur. You will get more information about the SI method and take part in a group interview during an afternoon session on May 15. Before hiring, the SI Leader will take part in a leadership training in the SI method during week 36 in September. The training sessions will be conducted in English.

After having completed the SI Leader education, the SI Leader should plan and organize SI sessions, invite students in class and on Canvas, keep contact with the course coordinator and participate in tutoring sessions with the SI supervisors and other SI Leaders.
