Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West’s overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 13,000 students and 700 employees.

University West is looking for a professor in quality management

Logistics and quality management have a long tradition at University West. The subjects have been included in basic education, education at advanced level and in our commissioned education for many years. At this moment in time, we are in a development phase of a new research environment where these subjects are central. The area is an important bridge between the research environments production technology and work-integrated learning (AIL) under which the university has postgraduate rights.

Role description:
The position mainly consists of teaching and research in logistics and quality management, as well as collaboration with business communities on national and international levels. Central duties linked to teaching are course development, teaching and student supervision at undergraduate and advanced level. The teaching takes place both on campus, online and contract education. Program responsibility and training for professionals may be relevant. In research, an important task will be to assist in the development of a research group where applications for external research funding are one part, especially the candidate is expected to develop partnership with industries, to attract sponsored research projects and to participate in promotional activities to recruit students, in short training courses and in other professional activities. An additional important task is to develop our international collaboration in research and education, where collaboration with the business community, such as international practice, also belongs. Supervision of doctoral students, both academic and industrial doctoral students, is also planned to be included in the work duties. In addition to the above, participation in the university's other activities, the department's development work, and administrative tasks are included.

Qualifications for professor:

  • Extensive experience of conducting independent research that significantly exceed what is required for associate professor according to practice in the field of logistics and quality management.
  • Demonstrated pedagogical skills. Applicants who do not have a pedagogical education are expected to undergo such training within the first two years of the employment.

This position also requires:

  • Skills for industrial involvement with companies on national and international levels.
  • Documented strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Documented skills in applying and leading international and national collaborative projects between universities.
  • Documented experience of building up and leading national and international collaboration projects between business and academia.
  • Documented good collaborative skills.
  • Oral and written communications skills in English (documented).

The following skills will be considered meritorious:

  • Experience of course and program development in higher education.
  • Experience of teaching with digital tools and development and implementation of online education.
  • Experience of contract education.
  • Experience of academic leadership.
  • Experience of working in companies.
  • Experience of International affairs, both in academic and in business.
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish.

Assessment criteria:
Special importance will be given to the scientific, collaboration and pedagogical skills in the subject field, as well as the ability to develop research and educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community. The subject field and the work tasks will be considered when evaluating the applicant’s skills.

Terms of employment:
The employment is a permanent position on full-time basis.
